Salmo....there are things within the law that WDFW can do to keep the tribes from overstepping their treaty rights. Remember last year when Bob posted those OP pictures of the closure signs on the rivers with indian gill netters in the background? That was stopped by intense pressure and publicity but WDFW could have done more.

As far as commercial fishing being supported by the WDFW commission because it is the law I say BUNK...it also says to provide a quality sports fishery. What the law needs is clarification perhaps but the interpretation of the RCWs is pretty slanted towards commercial fishing....not many would side with your view if you don't see that.For the commission to constantly preach about their hands being tied is feable. The sports community is starting to be heard loud and clear. Watch the boat show this year for the sports fishing section. Watch the protest in Port Townsend on Dec 5th and 6th. Watch the upcoming commission meetings. We'll be there in force. We will also be working with politicians to change the laws. Until all those things bear fruit I call bull**** on hiding behind the laws and the treaties as excuses for poor allocation of our resources.
