I think two mistakes are the most common. First is not reading the water and fishing where steelhead might live. I figure about 90% of a river's area is barren of steelhead. The second is standing in one spot casting to the same spot overly long. Unless I have damn good reason, I never make two casts to the same spot unless I've raised a fish. If they don't hit, move on and cover more water, increasing the chance to find a fish, and one that will hit.
