I think that the book, King of Fish, by David Montgomery nicely documents the demise of the world's salmon. And since we're on the topic of hydros just thought i'd mention the name of a book I came across that took a look into dam removal efforts across the nation. It's called, The Undamming of America...something like that. If I still remember correctly the author is a lady from New York who toured dams around the U.S.
