But I almost did!

Left Everett @ 4am in the rain this morning headed to the bubble to try out my new Scotty electric downrigger. Have never used one so it was just a short sea-trial to see how it worked etc.

It was pretty windy & rainy so trying to keep the boat on track plus fiddle with my new toy was challenging. I like how I can get my gear to the bottom very fast & retrieving it is even better! Anyway, trolled for an hour or so away from the other boats in about 200ft with no bites. Since my eldest daughter was sleeping on board (the whole time) I thought I'd drop a diver/flasher/hoochie in. I wasn't able to hand feed line out so I just loosened the drag till it began peeling out & just let her go for awhile. After setting the drag tight I paid no attention to it. Until i heard a strange zinging sound and looked around to see it buried! Hit the auto -up on the Scotty & jumped over & set the hook. Felt like a really big fish! After fighting it for about 2 minutes -still taking line & shaking head it went limp. Reeled up to find my 40lb. leader to the hoochie had snapped -no knot failure, it broke in the middle.

There are fish out there!
