Grandpa, yesterday we launched the boat at about 3 am and immediatly headed out for the bar, as we did not want to hit max ebb. Not the smartest thing I have ever done, but we made it through going slowly with just a few slammers. It was rougher than I had imagined it would have been, kinda creepy, must have been the big swells that were around. We hit the fishing grounds at the North bowl and fished for two hours with just a few shakers, decided to move to deeper water and hit a few more. Finally we and another vessel, Relentless, decided to run north to Point Grenville, where some fish had been caught the week earlier, and it was still slow. Finally got a call from my buddy Mark in the Relentless and he said they were catching some hatchery silvers farther north. We ended up going 30 miles north or the harbor, and fishing was not what I called red hot.
If I had my choice and the drive was not so far, I would head to LaPush, where fishing has been great. I said that was my last trip to Westport this year, but I know I will be back in a few weeks. It has to get better, one thing I noticed is that there were a lot less trailers in the lot and not much chatter on 68.
See you there......In search of that elusive fish.
