I have a question. How come 13ft float rods sound so rare out on the West coast? The difference in line control betwen and 11ft rod and 13 I think is huge, same difference between a 13ft and a 15ft. Especially on some of your river systems that extra few feet could help out a lot. The new loomis 13'4" would be a nice west coast float rod, has tons of beef to it. Getting a spey blank built into a float rod like steeliefreak said is also another good idea. I had my 13ft lamiglass spey rod converted into a float rod before going out to the oly pennisula. Worked out better than I thought. Didn't have any more fatigue at the end of the day any more than when fishing one of my 15footers. Handled the fish really nice and made BC style casting with the float reel a breeze.
