First time down to the beach this year was August 29th and I hit fish within 30 minutes. I was using a buzzbomb and just fishing for the hell of it since the beach is less than a 5min walk from my house.

Since the end of August I have seen several (6 or more a night) jumping right off shore, and I'm talking about 20 feet from shore! The fish come through in schools and porpoise and jump right in front of me at high slack.

Tried some red label herring under a float but couldn't get it to stay on the hook worth a darn. Got another nice on the other night on a Zzinger and it wrapped up in the line and broke me off as I was beaching it...ooops! Got my lure back, but got my feet wet too.

How do you rig the herring under the float? I've been using about 3' of leader from a 1oz. weight and then varying the bobber stop.

Do you just let it drift or reel it in slow?

Can't believe the damn things are in so close to shore. Fun fishing by myself, but it would be nice to have some company who knows their stuff about the beach coho.

Thanks,

Justin
