Good topic, brings up some fond memorys of my.....

1965 chevy 1/2 ton. Dull dark green. Back off mud flaps ( Yosemite Sam type) Crappy camper, ( Montana bell, AKA the stabbin cabin) with the jumping rainbow trout sticker and jumping whitetail deer sticker. Had a 292 straight 6 that ate water pumps about every 6 months. Kept a spare one at all times. It had a spot light that stuck up from the roof of the cab that had a handle in the cab so you could shine it all around ( very nice). We screwed coat hooks onto the back of the camper so we could hang and bungie cord float tubes on the back while driving, and hang wet waders when camping. Home made roof rack on top of camper.. beautyfull.

It ran rather well in spite of a lack regular oil changes etc, and always kept a good set of tires and a couple of spares. Handy man jack and tow strap behind seat. The inside had a rubber floor so you could just hose it out. One year we had a warm spring and a pot plant sprouted in the collected grime near the shifter.. I have no knowledge as to how that could have happened.

This was in the fly fishing only days so we put countless thousands of miles on it on remote dirt roads in eastern Oregon and Idaho. I had it for 10 years from high school on. The Stabbin cabin meet its end on a dirt road near Unity Oregon. We were climbing up a steep part of the road and it just fell out of the back and rolled down the hill and off the side. The tie downs had come loose... bummer.

I sold it for 600 bucks to a guy who worked with my dad. He tore it down to the frame and re-did the whole thing. Its a hot rod now and the 292 is long gone. He told me once that he had something like 25,000 dollars into it by the time he got done. I sorta liked it better the way it was.
