Actually if WWII tactics were used to take a beach in todays world I think there would be a collective "what the F are we doing?".

My father used to work with a man who was in the German army on the Russian front in WWII. A common tactic of the Russians was to throw wave after wave of men at your position until you ran out of bullets and then over run you. Many weren't even issued ammo. In the rear were often ex inmates who were ordered to shoot anyone who retreated. Todays technology precludes using such desperate tactics.
