Man, there's a lot of solid validity in that statement. The problem with a Senator of either party running is the length of the record to use against them. Every issue they vote on can become pretty complex and their vote is motivated by a miriad of reasons. In contrast to the black and white bubble that some live in, the issues that Congressmen vote on are never that clear cut.
