I might be growing gray hair on my ass before I come around to the 8 foot leader concept. As for the 6-8 pound mainlines...coming from a background heavy in chasing bluefin and albies, a person used the heaviest line that still CONSISTENTLY produced bites.

My theory is that small hooks tend to set themselves. So guys who havnt figured out the whole setting the hook thing get 'bit' more often with the flossing rig. And of course snaggers do better with a rig that sticks to a fishes side like a thorn. I really don't think your a snagger Max.

And finally, yes its fun and very possible to land huge fish on light line. But most guys don't know what the drag is for, and they have no business chasing bright springers with 10 pound leaders.
