I'm going to guess that you mean "Aussie Hat", rather than "Assie Hat", which is some strange variation of the "AssHat", of which we've got plenty of around here!

I wear cowboy hats for the same reason...keeps the sun and rain out of my eyes, and especially from screwing up my shades...
