dont bother.
I fish a floating line exclusively in the salt and unless i am out of neah bay fishing for rockfish or lingcod. I fish clousers a lot but they dont get down much. These fish are predators and when they see something that they want, they come and get it. in 6-8 feet of water they will have no problem seeing your fly.
You should also try fishing surface flies later in the year for cutties. I love fishing little sliders or poppers. lots of fun to watch the take... especially when you get into some big cohos.
