If you get a chance run out to Homer and watch the "fishing" method used in the pit. Red and white bobber on the end of your line and a bare hook 2 to 3 feet from the end of the line. Very effective, I've caught a few there using that setup. Fish swim laps in the pit being chased by seals and sealions and run into your line, line pulls tight and the hook stickes the fish in the jaw.
Sockeye counts have been low and the late run component doesn't start getting counted until the 17 at the Russain river. Daily counts are posted on a board right near the bridge in Kasilof. Best of luck to you. I won't be going this year but have gone the past three. Last year was the worst year yet for sockeye and this one is supose to be the same.
