Hillary used to be a Republican. She was a Goldwater Girl when she was a teen, I think.

As for the lack of foreign policy experience, the global political climate was much different then. Reagan and the senior Bush pushed the world toward peace without invading a country. American sentiment was good. Today, Obama would face a mine field. Russia is leveraging anti-American sentiment to get favoritism, China is building their military at an astounding pace, and then there's the Middle East. Throw in all the trade sanctions to keep American agricultural contigent intact, NAFTA, and illegal immigration, and you have a HUGE mess. It will be rough for Obama to make alliances and improve relations. I think he's up to the task. He's got that mark of intelligence that George Bush can only hope to imitate. Slick Willie had it too.
