WHITE SALMON, Wash. -- A fisherman who was thrown into the White Salmon River when his boat capsized has died, a hospital spokesperson said Wednesday.

Arthur Harmon and Harvey Nelson, from Yakima, were fishing in the Big White Salmon River in Underwood at around 3:30 a.m., Skamania County deputies said.

Nelson hooked a fish and began moving to the bow of the boat when it flipped and capsized, according to a sheriff's office statement.

Harmon tried to help Nelson, who deputies said cannot swim, but the pair became separated. Two other fishermen heard the commotion, picked up Harmon and took him to shore.

They then went back to rescue Nelson, deputies said.

Nelson was taken to Skyline Hospital in White Salmon and then transferred to Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland.

He died at the hospital
