Klyce05,

There is no need seek training from an outside source. Through breeding your dog is a specialized hunter with highly specialized nassal memory for birds. From the dogs point of view, YOU should be the trainer. The number one thing, IMO, to dog training is consistency.

The key is to have repetitive positive response to hunting birds. This means daily, bi-weekly, or weekly exposure to game bird scent and pursuing scent in the field. The short term memory of a dog is worthless. Their long term memory works through repitition and lots of it. You need to spend the time if you want it to work.

I would suggest you keep taking the dog hunting on a weekly basis for the rest of the season (pheasant, duck, quaill, grouse, etc................). Eventualy you will flush a bird, shoot it, regardless of the dogs help. When that happens you have to trick the dog into believing it was the reason the scenario took place. Induce massive amounts of praise and put that dog on top of the world. Make sure they smell that bird and think its better than sex. Over time, with weekly training, you and your dog will develop a relationship with hunting. The dog should start to associate bird scent with a positive response and then seek the scent/response. You need to spend the time if you want it to work.
