les claypool is the man you be referring to dewb. seen LP play several times. the band primus has two songs fishing related tittles. the 1st being "fish-on" the 2nd "ode to ol'diamond back". LP is a fisherman and was raised fishing sturgeon with his dad. one of primus's early videos was shot from the deck of a charter boat.
