The U.S. Attorney's Office in Seattle reports that a 38-year-old Woodland man has admitted to illegally hunting elk in the Olympic National Park.

Robert Hurst pleaded guilty Monday in U.S. District Court in Tacoma to hunting, killing and transporting a trophy Roosevelt bull elk.

He was put on probation for three years and ordered to forfeit his hunting licenses, stamps and permits or not to seek any of those during the probation. He was also ordered to take part in 80 hours of community service and forfeit all parts of the illegally taken elk.

Federal prosecutors say that on Sept. 19, 2007, Hurst came into the southern part of the park, then hiked a mile into the Litchy Creek drainage. He used a bow and arrow to kill the elk, which he field-dressed and carried out over several days.
