I have four Nigerian Dwarf goats as pets. Two does and two whethers (neutered males). Great pets, but do require work.......trimming hooves, feeding, watering, worming, and building a good protective pasture and shed. Stray dogs, coyotes, bobcats and cougars are concerns.

Goats are not great grazers, like sheep are. They prefer blackberries, branches, and brush. They will graze, but prefer my leftover garden goodies........corn stalks, raspberries vines, etc.

I agree with Aunty....check out rescue goats and always get at least two...they are pack animals. If I had to do it over again, I would go with just whethers.......quieter, cheaper, and in my experience, more friendly. They have great personalities, too. A couple of years ago I had some work being done on the road in front of my house and for several days the big, burly work crew would spend their lunch hour hanging out by my goat pasture petting and watching the goats.
