Sockeye anglers hopeful that permanent Cedar River hatchery is still a go |

A recent report has stirred up speculation on whether work can begin soon on a permanent Cedar River sockeye hatchery, but sport fishing advocates remain hopeful.

A report commissioned by independent scientists for state Fish and Wildlife voiced some concern on sockeye, which were introduced in 1935 to Lake Washington.

The report had 13 conclusions and five recommendations. The report indicated the reason for poor adult sockeye returns might be too many fry competing for very little food in the south end of the lake.
