About what I use except for a 14" buoy. Had a big 1 a few years ago hold it under for a couple minutes, thought briefly that it had imploded the buoy and we lost the fish, then it popped to the surface.
I have heard of smaller bouys (12">) imploding, you won't have that problem with a 17".
