If the administration has a hair on its azz about dealing with the illegal immigration problem, all he has to do is propose legislation to Congress that imposes mandatory fines and jail time for anyone who employs an illegal immigrant. And if Congress also has a hair and wants to deal with the issue, they would pass it.

But they won't, will they? Of course not. Too many individuals and businesses benefit by hiring illegal immigrants, and they'll exploit humanitarian or any fake reason in lobbying against this or any meaningful reform.

I sympathize with certain of Mr. Alvarado's concerns (the day laborer network guy) but overall his position statement is nucking futz. Some of those undocumented folks are criminals, and I don't even want to extend them a small measure of equality. The non-criminal illegals are still illegal and need to obtain a green card. And the gubmint needs to figure out how to issue them more quickly. I feel like such a redneck today.
