U.S. corporations other than banks held $1.84 trillion in the first quarter -- a 27 percent increase over early 2007, according to Moody’s Investors Service. As a percentage of total company assets, cash is at its highest level in half a century, Bloomberg Businessweek reported in its July 12 issue.
