I would think that a mine would have opened up the side of the ship, not just dented it...I would also think that if you ran into something big enough to make a dent like that, that you would have found what you ran into...dud torpedo? Mine? Botched terrorist attack? Poor operation of letoff valves as oil was pumped from one side of the ship to the other (mechanical implosion)?

The fact that Iran says they think was a 'freak wave' is so ridiculous that it makes me wonder if they played a hand in it, but why would they attack a Japanese tanker? If we did it to start another fake war, I'd wager we'd have done a better job of it
