The video is less than a decade old, but Oregon was far behind WA in adopting all wild release practices and on that river it only changed in the last year or so. Bonking nates was a normal practice on that river and that's where Glenn lives, so at the time it didn't seem like such a sin. It was also before he and the show were as well known as they are now, so he hadn't fished as many other areas to know how killing a nate was looked upon elsewhere, and I'm sure if he were to do it again it would be done differently.

I almost said I have never killed a nate, but then I remembered that back in about 1965 my friend and I (both about 9 years old) caught one and killed it, since they didn't clip fish back then it may have been a nate. This was in one of Sebastes' favorite little creeks.
