My opinion of the War on Terror is that it is, in some definition, a fraud. Without getting into 9/11 (collapse of WTC7 is easily the most questionable single event from that whole episode), it is a fraud in the sense that we are spending money to accomplish nothing. It is a fraud when you pay for something and get practically nothing. As I've stated many times before, we have too many soft targets in the U.S. to truly protect them. This is because we are fortunate enough to live in a rich country, with (comparatively) solid infrastructure. Trains, subways, ports, condos, skyscrapers, etc.

We can't protect it all. Not even close. At least not without driving us to bankruptcy. So, instead, we decide to dump BILLIONS into airport safety which, even at this point, is basically futile. The TSA's own self-tests of attempting to get weapons through checkpoints result in over 70% of weapons getting through undetected. Some airports have 100% failure rates. And all of this dumping of money stems from an event where people with 1 inch razor blades took over a plane. Something that will NEVER be allowed to happen again.

I've gone back in the PP threads and tried to find all of the 9/11 posts but the search feature doesn't seem to work very well that far back. I'd love to see the old "terror" and "9/11" posts from Sept - Dec 2001 and review what everyone was saying. I remember what I typed and I stand by it. I'm curious to see how many people would re-read what they posted and still agree with it? From what I remember, there were plenty of hotheads that were looking for a country to bomb. How did that go?
