In the absence of certainty, a more precautionary approach should rule the day.

Salmon populations for the last 3 centuries (yes I am counting Atlantics in Europe) have repeatedly paid the price for decisions made on the basis of human convenience. If it's too costly or inconvenient or might disrupt the societal status quo, well then fawk the fish. Isn't this petition just more of the same?
