Float fishing can be a really simple and also a very in depth way of fishing for steelhead despite people calling them training wheels or crutches. Obviously your choice on how to use the float would vary according to the water. Slow and froggy or high gradient fast with pocket water? Float and jig? Canadian style dink float and terminal gear or probing with beads ( which I personally plan on practicing more) under a few split shot and a small Thill float? These techniques are just a few ways of encompassing the float into your steelhead arsenal and really the tip of the ice burg. Also there are reasons for using slip floats and other reasons for using fixed floats!

The way I see it you have exactly two options here.

1. Go spend a few days on the Vedder River in Chilliwack BC and learn the intracacies of float fishing from the friendly locals up there.

2. Go buy Dave's book.

But mostly just buy Dave's book. smile
