You don't say how old your parents are, but if they are medicare age and don't have health insurance anymore, they may qualify for free prescriptions from some of the manufacturers. It requires paperwork from a doctor and needs to be renewed every so often and can a lot of paperwork, but it is an option to get brand name medications that are quite costly for free.

If you can change to some generics, there are some stores that have very low prices on generics and you may be get 90 day prescriptions for $9 to $10.

If they have a senior center near where you live, there are frequently programs that offer counseling and other services that could help your parent's cope with their problems. Age 55 is the usual enrollment age for most senior centers.

We all have to make difficult choices at times, but those cats need to go. Maybe your Dad can keep one?
