Got to watch Robbles for the first time last year when they televised the NCAA semi's, he lost and didn't make the finals but was a definite challenger. I think he wound up 3rd last year. Pretty amazing kid with an amazing story. I belive they said he didn't start wrestling til 9th grade..Thats a lot of ground to cover in 8 yrs..
Watched his quarter and semi matches this weekend via Tevo and heard on the radio this morning that he had won title..Pretty cool stuff. His semi match was fun to watch as he wrestled a kid (Ben Kjar) from Utah Valley U (an obscure college whose wrestling program is really comming into its own right now) and Kjar also has a birth deformity of his own so it was quite a match of inspiration. Kjar was born with a cranial deformity (looks similar to the condition the old school movie Mask was written around). Kjar came out of a no seed bracket and knocked off the #4 seed in the prelims then the #5 seed in the quarters before losing to Robbles in the semi's..
Congrats to Anthony Robbles..what a way to end a college career.
