You could say that.
I suppose it's because of the intent of the breed and the personal constitutions of some of the owners.
Many experienced with the breed say that they can be gentle and loyal companions.

I just saw one the other day....kind of a deadgrass color. The eyes and jaw reminded me of my Chesapeake.....supposedly the Pit was used in the development of the Chesapeake.
