Ah snails.....a topic dear to my heart. The answer to Dry Falls trout when
they get all pissy and quit biting.
Snails are the commonest of trout food seldom if ever fished with, even
by the flyfishermen.
When I waz plumbing the depths of dry falls to set my chronimid with a
small lead, bell shaped sinker on it, I kept getting hit as I brought it up
from the depths. Finally the Light bulb came on. They think the bell
sinker is a SNAIL.
I tied a reasonable pattern this winter using wraps of black float foam wrapped
around the shank, Try for three wraps of increasing size and leave room
for a grey wool beard on top. Then coat the whole thing with "Soft Body" a
brand of super glue. Oh, I weighted the hook shank on some to make sinkers.
Will fish them just off the weeds under a strike indicator.
Can hardly wait to try it next year.
