Your explanation of gov't. expense on Knox's behalf may be your dumbest post ever.

It's not like the US gov't. spent any resources on her defense or related costs. Any US citizen arrested in a foreign country can have the State Dept. look into the matter to ascertain that it's all above-board. The US spent more, and still very little, on behalf of the three hikers in Iraq that were captured and arrested and convicted of spying in Iran. But when Americans are accused of spying, as opposed to ordinary crimes of theft, assault, or murder, it elevates to a matter of state and merits intervention by the US gov't.

As far as I've heard, Knox's defense and related expenses have been born entirely by her family, who is now in debt apparently.
