Hunted Skagit Bay with my oldest son. Ran a little late but still managed to find a spot and have the decoys set up and boats hid about 10 minutes before shooting time. About 5 minutes later had 5 whitefronts over our heads at 25 feet, damn it hurt to pass on those birds (especially since it seemed that we were the only ones that didn't start the season a bit early).

Bluebird day with lots sun and dead calm. Made it tough to finish the birds (having lots of shooting and other activity nearby didn't help either). Also both of us were more than a little rusty with the shotgun (in spite of the best intentions didn't make it to the range during the off season) however we still managed duck limits (mostly teal and mallards) in time for the Husky game.

Thought there were fewer birds (especially widgeon) than in recent years but there are lots of snow geese in the area - there were as many as 20,000 on Fir Island this week. Some Canadas and whitefronts mixed in as well.

Next hunt will be targeting the snows.
