I waz aware of the "pink lady" fly way back in the mid 50's.....now I've really dated myself. It waz a popular lake pattern then and I don't know the true year of it's origin.

In THEM days few or no people knew how to tie or fish bloodworms or Chironomids. So the first "fishable hatch of spring waz when the water warmed enuff for surface action to start. The fly of choice by far waz the Pink Lady.

Many chironomids in the Acid W. Wash water hatch out with a little blood retention before they leave the water. They are basically a pale grey body with a hint of pink color. Really a grey with a pinkish cast.....hard to achieve and impossible to describe.
The best pattern is "Adams like" and size 14 or 16 with a body of pale, pale, pale PINk.
It can be also tied parachute style and becomes an effective Chironomid emerger.
