For conventional rods, I just use my Thule rack. They lock down, and are not coming off. Only temple scratcher is I dont fit in or mistaken for the hyper cool crotch-scratching grunge crowd of spey fly flinging ellitists, nor am I properly recognized as a suction cup magnetic mount rod holder owning guy when passed on the highway... but that's cool with me.
