Now that the season is over, I've been looking back and evaluating the hunting I did.

All was pretty successful except hunting ruffed grouse in Western Washington. Every time I go after these, I return seeing and shooting at nothing. I'm pretty new to bird hunting. 3 years. I've done OK with duck, pheasant, quail and blues but ruffes have completely eluded me on this side of the mountains.

Time to seek advise. Can anyone give me general advise on how to hunt these birds on foot with pointing dogs in W. Washington?
