Got a pair of Downie Woodpeckers that nest in a dead 7in dia.
branch on the Apple Tree. Funny to watch, they drill a new hole
each year. Won't use the old one. The male starts a hole and
brings his mate to show off. She looks it over and starts her own
hole. This years eggs have hatched and there are three little
fuzz balls in the bottom of the hole. Gotta use an inspection
mirror to see them.
Pair of Flickers have a nesting hole in the big Weeping Willow.
I don't spray ants nest any more. The Flickers love ants, and will
park on a nest and eat their fill.
I hear the Downies working the Cherry Tree for bugs now and
then but they're no disturbance.
Nice to see some happy peckers now and then.
