I hunted the opener in the southeast corner with a buddy of mine. Didn't see as many birds as I've seen in years past, but the hunter population sure seems to have doubled.

But, we did find a roost tree that had a pile of turkeys in it. Problem is, a lot of other people knew about it as well. We knew we'd have to get in there real early to get our spot, so we just decided to sleep in our trucks the night before. Couldn't believe it when the first hunters drove by at 11:00 the night before! The most nerve wracking part was watching all the cars driving slowly by about a 1/2 hour before shooting time. I was just waiting for someone to walk in on us and shoot one out of the tree. Fortunately it never happened and we were able to coax a jake in. two ounces of five shot at 30 yards did the trick. Having left over turkey tonight.

Not sure about this opening day business though. Just getting to be too many people out there. Don't want to think about what time I'll have to get in there next year.
