Republican attacks on President Obama’s plans for Medicare are growing more heated and inaccurate by the day. Both Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan made statements last week implying that the Affordable Care Act would eviscerate Medicare when in fact the law should shore up the program’s finances.

Both men have also twisted themselves into knots to distance themselves from previous positions, so that voters can no longer believe anything they say. Last week, both insisted that they would save Medicare by pumping a huge amount of money into the program, a bizarre turnaround for supposed fiscal conservatives out to rein in federal spending.

President Obama and his campaign have offered a series of defenses for the roughly $700 billion in Medicare cuts he enacted to help finance his $1.7 trillion national health care law. To summarize, they have argued that 1) the cuts only deal with overpayments to private insurers and providers, 2) they don't affect benefits, and 3) the cuts extend the solvency of Medicare. Not one of these claims holds up under scrutiny.

No C & P back to you AM, but I too have dealt with some frustrating and totally exasperating issues when it comes to health care and my Mother. It is difficult enough for me and nearly impossible for her to decipher which hoop to jump through and which to jump over all the while trying to show that she stills pays her co-pays and supports herself on a fixed income, which she absolutely does all by herself. wink

My intent is to show that no matter which way we lean we are all going to lose, once again the average American is screwed.
