BigPhish, even if the Indians do end up taking what has been "your" fish, that's preferable to you comm's. netting the fish in the ocean, even though the Indian nets aren't very "selective" either. I've already given my 2 cents worth in the past about the advantages of terminal/selective comm. fishing vs. ocean/net fishing. Besides, I'm not an authority on I-696 but I haven't read anything that would stop you comm's. from lobbying the State to allow you to fish the rivers using devices that allow you to release non-targeted species. This comes from someone who is very seriously considering becoming a comm. fisherman in S.E. Ak. next year- troller, not netter. ( Sorry guys, I'll be harvesting a few of your kings, but I just found out the silvers caught by S.E. comm's. are nearly 100% Alaskan fish)
