Send the reel back to Shimano. Give them a note explaining the defect. I can tell you on at least 5 occasions I have sent a reel back to Shimano and they have replaced it and or provided an upgrade for free. I once sent a citica reel back that one person told me I should lube with toothpasteand they replaced it with a curado.

I once drove over a rod and reel (leaning on the back of my truck). Smashed the reel FUBAR and i send it back and they give me a brand new reel. Im tellin ya Shimano in Irvine California....worst they can do is send the reel back and or fix it and provide you with a bill.

Spend the 6 bucks! You probly won't regret it.

Ohh...It helps to have reel box that you bought it in as well.
