There are already some freaky effects in the lands surrounding the meltdown. Japanese wild boars, called "inoshishi", are boldly walking through fields and towns where they were never seen before the event. These things have been hunted for hundreds of years. They always had a healthy fear of humans and live a mostly nocturnal life. But they are now commonly seen in the daytime, with no fear of the few people they do see. Their meat is highly toxic, of course. Bold piggies, like mini Godzillas running amok in the rice paddies.
