I would rely far more...like entirely wink...on choosing the length and strength of rod you need to fish in any specific way rather than use the designation that the manufacturer chooses for the rod.

I use almost entirely Lamiglas rods and with respect to the "Vedder" and "Herzog" rods I have always found the "Vedder" rods to make better spoon rods, and the "Herzog" rods to make better float rods, regardless of whose name is on the handle.

I own at least half a dozen rods that the manufacturers call "float rods" or "jig rods"...but the only rod I ever use a float on is my centerpin, and there's pretty much never a jig under it, either wink
