"Salmon Without Rivers" is the title of a recently published book that describes how the salmon crisis originated from the time salmon were abundant when the west was being settled to and how the decline was accelerated by greed of the settlers.

I found it quite interesting but also depressing to see how the states have managed the fisheries.

Recommend everyone browse through this text. The stuff they describe about mining, logging, sawdust dumping, fish traps hatchery mis-management, over-fishing, etc is amazing. It's a wonder we have anything left.
