I never knew that some hatchery smolts could actually spawn immediately with wild fish right after release due to premature fertility. Or that large smolt releases ring the diner bell for predators that normally would not have been alerted...and the wild smolt get gobbled up as a result.

the early sexual maturity could explain the small cookie cutter steelhead that are so prevalent in hatchery dominated rivers. just a thought.
