I fished the Skykomish opener yesterday and made a few obvious observations:

-100+ jet boats on the river
-100's (or thousands) of bank fishermen on the river
-25+ drift boats on the river

The turn out to catch hatchery Steelhead was incredible. With the conversations surrounding the devaluation of a Puget Sound Steelhead in the last six months one might think nobody fished for them in the Puget Sound rivers. Yesterday told a completely different story. The river was alive with anglers young and old looking for that first bite of the summer.

I know this may have been the hottest topic on this forum over the last couple months but yesterday really put in to perspective what these fisheries mean.

I am still shaking my head at the thought of no winter hatchery Steelhead.

On a side note....fishing was pretty good!
