That is a bit of a straw man argument and here is why. The government isn't competing for your business like an eye doctor does. The market values quality eye care, therefore, it costs quite a bit. The market has little influence on licensing fees/taxes and those collecting those fees/taxes have no incentive to be efficient with that money. Hence, the "leaning on shovels" problem.

If you wanted a nice house like an eye doctor might have (after paying off many thousands of dollars worth of medical school debt) perhaps you should have become a doctor.

Don't let envy eat you up, life is too short.
