So here in WA we have extremely limited halibut seasons due to strict harvest quotas. Quota consumed = season closed. The statewide quota for rec halibut runs about 200-250K pounds.

In comparison, the Bering Sea by-catch of wasted Alaska halibut = over 82 million pounds over the past decade. 82 fukkin MILLION!

This is NOT directed harvest, folks, but simply the dead wasted fish from pollock trawls!

The International Pacific Halibut Commission estimates 93 percent of halibut caught in the Bering Sea in 2015 will be bycatch, up from 70 percent in 2014.

And when regulators finally propose meaningful caps on this egregious and unconscionable waste for the dirtiest fishery in the North Pacific, the bastages led by WDFW's own Bill Tweit weasel out a worthless proposal.
